Convocation Day and the Inauguration of the
Laudato Si’ Rooms and Hall at FISI
24 March 2026
The Franciscan Institute of Spirituality, India
(FISI) celebrated its Convocation Day with
grandeur and reverence, marking a historic
occasion: the 800th anniversary of the Transitus
of our Seraphic Father, St. Francis of Assisi.
The event, held at the Institute's Aula Magna,
was preceded by the inauguration of the Laudato
Si’ Block, which features three air-conditioned
rooms and a hall. Fr. John Alwyn Dias, our
former Provincial, welcomed the gathering before
cutting the ribbon; he also extended heartfelt
gratitude to the generous benefactors whose
constant support brought this project to a
successful completion.
Both the Convocation Ceremony and the
inauguration of the Laudato Si’ Block were
graced by the esteemed presence of our Capuchin
confreres from neighboring communities in
Bangalore and Mysore. Their presence symbolized
the unity of the religious community in
embracing the teachings of St. Francis of
Assisi, particularly during this jubilee year of
his "Passover."
The celebration was enriched by vibrant cultural
performances, including various traditional and
contemporary dances. Fr. Edwin Colaco, one of
the most senior members of our province,
presented the diploma certificates to the
students. A shadow play on the life of St.
Francis provided a grand and meaningful finale
to the program.
The evening began with a warm welcome by our
Guardian, Rev. Fr. Sandeep, followed by a
concise academic report for the year 2025–2026
presented by the Director, Fr. Salvador. Sr.
Grancy, FHGS, proposed the vote of thanks, and
Sr. Selvam, CFMSS, served as the charismatic
anchor for the event. The program concluded with
a delightful fellowship dinner, fostering a deep
sense of community and shared purpose.
The Institute Day not only marked a historical
milestone but also strengthened the spirit of
unity and fraternity among all present.
